I've been watching the way the Registry has been used over the past half year or so and have been thinking of ways to expand upon the site… so here it is!

You can now create pages associated with your World/Nation/Dimension/Setting:
http://figmentregistry.wikidot.com/create-new-world-page

You can now create pages associated with your Story:
http://figmentregistry.wikidot.com/create-new-story-page

You can now create pages associated with your Races/Creatures:
http://figmentregistry.wikidot.com/create-new-species-page

These will show up in newly created category pages that are linked along the top menu bar. Page templates for each new category have been created to help you start creating your pages, as well.

The Site Templates and Codes page has been updated to reflect the new coding and templates for these sections.

http://figmentregistry.wikidot.com/codes

Enjoy!

Rearranged the front page some today to add a list of the most recently updated figments as well as updates and news announcements that I post to this forum. Right now, the figment list only has the most recent 5… should this be more?

Posting Writing Snippets and Chapters -- Should We?

What are your thoughts about organizing a way to actually add your own writing and chapters up on the Registry? Since it does have a comment feature, it would be a safe place to post drafts and writing to Authors who are interested beta-reading and leaving feedback. The pages can also be edited easily when you decide to revise and make changes (as you've probably experienced making your own pages). It would give you a way to fully link your writing snippets and figments together on one site.

Would that be cool? Or do you feel that it would take away from the figment-focus of the site?

It would be something that would take a little thought and development on my side, but it's very, very do-able.

Please discuss!

Using Canon Character Names

I have noticed that a lot of people have made links to canon characters in their Author profiles….

This is natural, as a number of us write from the same game/anime/etc worlds. I would like to ask folks to try not to "take" the canon character pages if possible. Here's how this can be done.

Say… ten people have a Cecil Harvey in their figment list. Is it fair that any one person gets the page Cecil Harvey? I thought about putting up a place holder page to discourage this. But not only would that take a lot of time, but it would also clutter up the directory and show non-figments in the Figment Highlight on the front page. Not good.

Here is a way to still use Cecil Harvey without claiming the canon character page. Append some sort of identifier to the character that denotes they belong to you.

For example, in my case, my world is known as Darkstar. So the natural thing for me to do is append "DS" to the end of my figment's name. However, I don't want him to show up as Cecil Harvey DS on my Auhor page… so what do I do?

If you use the following code, it will work:

[[[figments:cecil-harvey-ds | Cecil Harvey]]]

This will display a link that looks like this:
Cecil Harvey

On the actual figment page, you can change the name that is shown so that it simply says "Cecil Harvey"… though I would suggest that you do append something to his name to differ him from anyone else's. In my case, I'll probably title the page Cecil Harvey (DS).

I hope this makes sense and helps!

I'm pleased to announce that the front page of the Registry now highlights a random figment from our Figment Directory! You can refresh every minute to meet someone new (though if you refresh more often than that, you won't see it change).

The figment's name and a link to their page and Author will be displayed in this box. It will also display a the first paragraph of the short summary used to describe the figment on their page, to give visitors a snap-shot idea of who the figment is.

I hope this will be a fun means by which everyone's figment can get font page space at one time or another! If you have other ideas on how to give Authors and Figments more exposure, please let me know. This site is about YOU and your worlds!

Aywren

As you might know by now, this site is designed to offer Authors the ability to create their own personalized webpages designed for their worlds and characters. This should be helpful to any Author who has developed far too many characters for their friends (even themselves!) to keep up with!

This is a Wiki site that allows quite a bit of customization. We have worked to create templates as well, hoping to make entering your information as easy to do as possible. However, page design is as easy or complex as you want it to be! The sky is the limit.

If you should have questions or problems with coding and design, or if you just wanted to share your updated pages and discoveries, feel free to post here!

Please remember to keep your contributions to this site safe for children and young eyes. If anything is deemed inappropriate, the Admins have the right to remove the offending content. Thank you!
